Dr. West is a tenured instructor at Lawson State Community College, teaching college courses in Sociology and History. In addition to teaching, he advises at least 150 students per year, and serves on numerous committees, including the Admission Appeals Committee and the Honors College Advisory Council. He has taught freshman and sophomore level survey courses at both 2-year and 4-year institutions, including online, ground, and blended formats. Published in the areas of education, religion, disability, and history, Mr. West’s work appears in Sociological Spectrum (2010), Religions (2011), The Review of Disability Studies (2011), The Encyclopedia of Mathematics and Society (2012), The Alexandrian (2017), and The Community College Journal of Research and Practice (2022). He has participated in or chaired panels at the annual meetings of the Mid-South Sociological Association. Mr. West is actively involved in Central Alabama Mensa, serving as a boardmember on the Executive Committee, as well as the Public Relations Chair. Mr. West earned a BA in Sociology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, an MA in Sociology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and an MA in American History from Troy University, and PhD in Instructional Leadership from the University of Alabama. He expects to finish a graduate certificate in 2024 in quantitative educational research methods.
